President's New Student Convocation
WIU faculty, staff, and students will officially welcome new undergraduate students and their families to Western Illinois University at the August 21, 2015, New Student Convocation.
All incoming freshmen and transfer students should plan to attend this ceremony, which is designed to promote Western's values -- academic excellence, educational opportunity, personal growth, and social responsibility. Convocation is also a time to share in the rich traditions and history of the University.
The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a formal procession of faculty and administrators dressed in full academic regalia. President Jack Thomas, Board of Trustees Chair Roger Clawson, WIU Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Mohammad Siddiqi, and Student Government Association President Wil Gradle will present remarks. Interim Provost and Academic Vice President Kathleen Neumann will serve as Master of Ceremony for the event.
Convocation participants are invited to attend the President’s Family Picnic on the campus mall, southwest of the Spencer Student Recreation Center, immediately following the Convocation.
