Western Illinois University is honored to serve as Illinois’ host institution for the national Ready To Run® candidate recruitment and training programs of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. Ready To Run® is a nonpartisan campaign training program that encourages and trains women to run for elective office, position themselves for appointive office, work on campaigns, and become involved in the public sphere.

About Ready To Run® Illinois Campaign Training Program 


Ready To Run® Illinois is a one-day training on Western Illinois University’s beautiful Quad Cities Riverfront Campus. All program events will be held in Riverfront Hall.

Featured Speakers: 

The program kicks off with a keynote address by Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17).  Featured speakers include Eva Pusateri Campbell, communications and strategy consultant and president and founder of Expert Communications, Inc.; Nancy Bocskor, expert in civic leadership,  fundraising and applied democracy and owner of the Nancy Bocskor Company; and Rebecca Sive, Academic Director, Women In Leadership for the Public Good, Harris School of Public Policy, at the University of Chicago, who will speak on her book Every Day Is Election Day: A Woman's Guide to Winning Any Office from the PTA to the White House.

The workshop includes discussion on laying the groundwork for public life by women elected officials, including Illinois Representative Norine Hammond and former Iowa Senator, Maggie Tinsman. Current and former elected officials at the local and state level will also advise participants on how to get started today for a life in public service.  

A panel of campaign managers, consultants, and political party leaders will share their expertise on what women need to know to run for public office.  Topics covered include strategy, communication, media/social media, party support, and fundraising.
