Alan Sivell

Alan Sivell

Alan Sivell earned his B.A. in English from Hampden-Sydney College and M.A. in journalism from the University of Iowa. For the past 30 years, Sivell has taught at St. Ambrose University. His courses include print and broadcast journalism, speech, and media history, literacy and ethics. He is also advisor to the St. Ambrose University student newspaper, The Buzz. Sivell began his journalism career in junior high school, delivering his hometown paper, The Hartford Courant. Before turning to teaching, Sivell worked in newspapers, radio, pubic relations and television as a writer, editor and on-air. He currently writes a blog for the latest medium, the internet.

Sangeetha A. Rayapati

BSangeetha A. Rayapati has lived in the Quad Cities for 16 years with her husband, Michael, and their three daughters, ages 13, 9, and 5. She was raised in southeastern Pennsylvania by her Minnesotan mother and Indian-immigrant father and moved to the Midwest for college and graduate school. She teaches at Augustana College where she is Professor of Music and serves in a variety of leadership positions. In addition to her degrees in music, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse for three years. She has spent her professional life researching benefits of and methods for older-adult involvement in singing, and her personal time volunteering in her children’s classrooms, serving as a Girl Scout troop leader, and being active in her church. Healthcare and education have always been a part of her orientation to service and she now serves as the Vice-President of the Moline/Coal Valley School Board.
