Professor Carper obtained her J.D. from DePaul University in 1983, and practiced law until 2005 with a concentration in criminal defense. She has been teaching law classes for the LEJA School since 1987. She has a Bachelor's Degree in English Education and a Master's in Education from WIU. Prior to attending law school, she taught junior high English and composition and was an education specialist for the Illinois Department of Education Gifted Program.
She is also serving as the University Professionals of Illinois Union Grievance officer for the WIU faculty and is the LEJA Webmaster.
