Professor Chuvala received his M.S. from Southern Illinois University in 1976. He has been in the military with training in counterintelligence, and has experience in security and loss prevention in the fields of corrections, campus, healthcare, retail, and the lodging industry. His positions have included that of security director, manager, and training coordinator.
John Chuvala has co-authored a textbook, numerous articles on security issues, and has been a speaker on academic issues in security in Australia, New Zealand, and throughout the United States. He is also a member of the American Society for Industrial Security, and is certified as a protection professional with that organization. As a professor at Western, his areas of expertise are in security, loss prevention, safety, and management. Special emphasis is given to the areas of training, negligence and liability, ethics, domestic and workplace violence, and personnel security.
