Dr. Hazlett received his doctorate in 1984 in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. His prior degrees include a master of arts in 1975 and bachelor of science in 1973 in political science from West Texas State University. Prior to teaching at Western, Dr. Hazlett was a professor at the University of Alabama, and an instructor at Sam Houston State University. He also worked for several years for the Governor's Office of General Counsel and Criminal Justice in Austin, Texas as a research specialist, planning and development specialist, and program field evaluator.
Having published and coauthored numerous articles, Dr. Hazlett teaches several of the statistics and research methods courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels at WIU. In addition to his teaching duties, Dr. Hazlett also offers consultation expertise in several areas including criminal justice statistics and research.
