Dr. Todd Lough earned his
Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Concordia College in 1986, where he
majored in Political Science. He subsequently attended Loyola University
Chicago, earning both an M.A. (1990) and Ph.D. (1998) in American Politics. His
research at Loyola examined the effects of scandal on elections for the U.S.
House of Representatives. In the fall of 1998, Dr. Lough graduated from the Chicago Police Academy, and received the distinction of
being named the outstanding recruit in his class.
Prior to coming to Western in the fall of 2007, Dr. Lough worked for nine years as a Chicago Police Officer.
During his tenure with the CPD, he worked in a number of different capacities, including
patrol officer, gang and tactical officer, neighborhood relations officer, and
gang violence analyst. As a gang violence analyst Dr. Lough worked in the Chicago Police Department's Deployment Operations Center where he
conducted a weekly analysis of street gang-related shootings in an effort to
deploy department resources to combat gang violence and reduce the city’s
homicide rate.
Dr. Lough also worked for several years as a security agent for a number of different companies including Major League Baseball and Sotheby’s. His research interests include policing issues, private and public security concerns, and multi-jurisdictional responses to terrorism.
