William Poncin received a bachelor of business degree from Western Illinois University in 1976 and a juris doctor degree from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago in 1980.

William was elected to four terms as McDonough County States Attorney and has over 24 years of experience as a prosecutor. As States Attorney, in addition to prosecuting criminal and juvenile cases, he established a victim/witness program and a child advocacy center to provide services to crime victims.

Prior to becoming an assistant professor, Poncin served as an LEJA adjunct faculty member from 1998 to 2005. He is a member of the Illinois Victim Assistance Academy faculty and has provided training to police officers and social workers.
