Newly Accepted Students to Western Illinois University-Quad Cities

Fun Fact: Western Illinois is the only public school in the U.S. that has permission through the Department of the Navy to use the United States Marine Corps official seal, mascot (the bulldog) and nickname, The Fighting Leathernecks.
Now that you have been accepted to Western Illinois University-Quad Cities, there are a few things you need to be sure to do to prepare for the start of your first semester. Below is a step-by-step guide on what you should do now that you are accepted.
Step 1 - Activating Your Student Accounts
You have 2 students accounts that will be your navigational tools through your Western education: ECom and STARS.
Your ECom Account
Before you can login to Zimbra (student email) or WesternOnline, you must activate your ECom account.
- Visit GUAVA at www.wiu.edu/guava
- Click on 'Account Activation'
- 'Account Activation' screen will prompt you for your;
- Ecom username: This is the username received in your enrollment packet or from your department.
- WIU ID Number: Do not include spaces/dashes. This number is included in your enrollment packet or available from your department.
- Birth date: Note the format: YYYYMMDD
- ECom Password: Enter a new ECom password. It must contain at least 2 letters and at least 1 number.
- Security Questions
- Click 'Submit' to process your info.
- You should see a confirmation message that your password was successfully changed.
Your Student/Alumni Records System (STARS) Account
The Student/Alumni Records System (STARS) provides students, alumni, and employees with access to their university records from 3:00 a.m. to midnight (CST), seven days a week.
Access is based on your 9-digit Western identification number (WIU ID) and your 8-character Password. You will also be required to have two personal identification questions and answers on file which may be used to verify your identity if you forget your password.

Step 3 - Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarship Opportunities

- Apply for Financial Aid by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA)

Step 4 - Attend Student Orientation
Find What You Need
Plan to attend a new student orientation. Orientation sessions are scheduled in August and January of each year. Notification of available dates will be mailed and emailed to you so please check your mailboxes!

Note: You will need to activiate your ECom account to access your Zimbra (student email) account. Please refer to Step 1 for activation instructions.
Step 5 - Ordering Your Textbooks
Find Out How
1. By Telephone:
Order your textbooks directly from the WIU Union Bookstore toll free at 1-800-338-6369. You have the choice of having your order delivered to the address you choose or you can save on shipping and handling and have your order delivered to the Quad Cities Campus and pick it up in Student Services during regular business hours.
2. Online:
Order your textbooks online directly from the WIU Union Bookstore at www.efollett.com with the same delivery choices as the telephone orders.
3. Pre-Order and Pick Up Your Textbooks During the Quad Cities Campus Textbook Sale:
Textbooks for independent study and online courses must be ordered from the WIU Union Bookstore toll free at 1-800-338-6369 by the Friday before the textbook sale date at the Quad Cities Campus if you would like to pick them up during the textbook sale at the Quad Cities Campus.
4. Textbook Rental:
