Center Activities

The WIU-QC Writing Center serves the entire Quad Cities campus community, including students, faculty, staff, BHC students, and alumni. Professional writing consultants and instructors (Masters+) provide assistance with any writing project, both process and product, in order to help everyone become more effective writers.

We are prepared to support writers across the curriculum, tutoring writing in the humanities, social sciences, education, business, and the sciences. We also offer a career writing service for resume development, letters of application, and workplace writing.

One-on-one workshops on grammar, paraphrase/summary, documentation of sources, etc. are available upon request. We also offer practice in English conversation/idiom to international students/faculty/staff.

Consultants can be especially helpful to faculty desiring feedback on syllabi and writing assignments. They are also practiced in playing the "ideal reader" role for writers preparing publications or presentations. Our writing consultants this semester are 2 professional writing instructors with advanced degrees and two talented, dedicated interns.

For information on services offered in Macomb, visit www.wiu.edu/uwc. Here you will find hours of operation, introduces consultants and tutors, and links to several valuable resources including Purdue’s Online Writing Lab and the University Writing Program Manual. Purdue’s OWL contains excellent handouts for writers and teachers of writing.
