Community Based Scholarships

The Martin Dupuis Mukti Fund Leadership Award

The University Committee on Sexual Orientation is pleased to inform WIU students about the Martin Dupuis Mukti Fund Leadership Award in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) Communities. This $1,000 award will recognize a student who will be returning to WIU for the 2013-2014 academic year and who has provided leadership either for a GLBT group or in regard to GLBT issues at WIU. Applicants will need to complete the application form, which is included here, as well as write a short essay and provide a resume and two letters of reference. (Additional instructions are included in the application.)

RIA Federal Credit Union Scholarship

  • GPA, ACT, Year in School: Minimum GPA of 3.0, Undergraduate
  • Major, Other Requirements:Open to students enrolled in a College of Business and Technology major at WIU-QC

  • Award Amount: $2,000 per year, $1,000 per semester maximum.

2013 QC Auto Service $500 Scholarship

QC Auto Service will Award up to Twelve (12) $500 Scholarships to Graduating Seniors from Quad City Area High Schools. 

TO ENTER THE STUDENT MUST:

  • Be accepted to and will attend College in the Fall of 2013.
  • Be a High School Senior, maintaining at least a 2.5 GPA, “C+” average or better.
  • Submit a typed 500 word essay on how you have gone above and beyond to make a difference.
  • Entry Deadline: March 15th, 2013.
  • Must be present at Aware Reception to accept Scholarship.

All applications will be reviewed by QC Auto Service Scholarship Committee. The decision of the Committee is final.

The Scholarship Winners will be notified early May 2013 in person, as well as in area newspaper. 

Scholarship Award Ceremony to be held in early June, 2013. Students must be present to accept their scholarship .

RUTH LAMBRICK VANTIEGHEM SCHOLAR AWARD

The Ruth Lambrick VanTieghem scholarship if offered in memory of Ruth Lambrick VanTieghem. Ruth was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She valued family and knew the importance of a good education. The purpose of the award is to recognize and encourage a deserving student who has completed at least two years of college and plans to continue his/her education. This $1000 award may be used for college expenses.

To qualify for the award, the applicant must fulfill the following requirements:

    1. Student must have successfully completed at least two years of college and plan to
      continue their education.
    2. Student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 based on a 4.0 system.
    3. Submission of a letter of recommendation from someone (non-relative) who knows
      the applicant as a student, an employee, or a volunteer i.e. someone who can provide
      insight into the applicant's personal character, potential and motivation.
    4. Complete the application form PDF File (print out and fill in).
    5. On a separate piece of paper, attach a 500 to 1,000 word essay on your heritage.

An award committee will select the candidate for the award. The committee must receive applications by April 14, 2013. Only complete application packets will be considered by the committee. The award will be awarded at The Center for Belgian Culture Annual Meeting. The Center reserves the right to promote this award in their publications and with the local media.

Abilities Plus Endowment

The Abilities Plus Endowment in Kewanee, Illinois is now accepting applications for its academic scholarships. Two $500 scholarships are available to students from Henry, Stark, and western Bureau counties pursuing a degree in the human service fields. Ideal applicants will be pursuing a career working with individuals with disabilities or developmental delays. All applications must be postmarked by March 25, 2013 and applicants will be notified by July 2013 about the selection committee's decision.

Vernona Jepsen Scholarship

Application for 1 of 2 $1000 Scholarships

Requirements: Quad Cities Metro Area Female; Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in College/University

Application deadline: March 30, 2013

The Vernona Jepsen Scholarship is named for Vernona Jepsen, a longtime QC IA Davenport-Bettendorf Branch/AAUW member who left an endowment fund in her will to the Branch with the proviso that only the interest on the same could be used for scholarship operations. The scholarships are to be awarded to females already pursuing career goals by attending institutions of higher education and demonstrating success at the freshman (1st year) or higher levels. Each applicant must have a legal permanent residence in the Quad-Cities Metro Area and be able to show a college/university enrollment that indicates a continuing pursuit of education, a good record to date and a definitive financial need. The scholarship funds are not retroactive and 1/2 of each will be paid at the beginning of each semester of the designated recipient year. Previous Davenport-Bettendorf scholarship recipients may apply.
