Quad Cities Conservation Alliance Scholarship

HISTORY:

The Quad City Conservation Alliance (QCCA) is a non-profit, volunteer-lead, organization made up of five clubs who together focus on educating, promoting and actively participating in local conservation efforts throughout the Quad Cities.

Each year the QCCA raises thousands of dollars to support conservation projects within the community by hosting events at their facility, the QCCA Expo Center.

Funds raised during these events are distributed to local educational institutions, civic organizations, youth groups and city, state and federal government agencies to support conservation programs and environmental education opportunities in a grant-style format. Since 1984, the QCCA has donated more the $2,000,000 to local conservation efforts.

CRITERIA:

Open to undergrad and graduate students at Western Illinois University-Quad Cities who are focused on environmental studies with a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average and in good standing with the University.

Community Service and Campus Activities especially related to regional Conservation (Preservation, Restoration and Education) projects and events.

An 500-1,000 word essay will required addressing “Why Conservation of our natural resources is important to me”.

TERMS:

Two separate awards of $1,000 each year, one in the spring and one award in fall. Scholarships are not automatically renewed but applicants may apply again.

Funds deposited in student accounts.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Selected by a committee of 5 including 3 WIU Faculty, a representative of the WIU Student Services and an at-large WIU staff member. Once candidate(s) have been selected the committee will forward applications and recommendations to the Board of the Quad City Conservation Alliance for approval.

APPLICATIONS/DEADLINE:

One deadline in the fall and one in the spring based on the academic calendar.
