Spiral Galaxy

Acrylic Painting

"Spiral Galaxy is a one of the first paintings I ever did. I do not think it is particularly my best, but it has a lot of meaning to me. It was my first time using acrylics and it was a topic that I love. I have always been a "space nerd" and I am obsessed with the brilliant colors that can be found in galaxies. I chose a spiral galaxy because, to me, it is the prettiest kind."

Abstract Expression of Warmth

Acrylic Painting

"I have always loved everything warm. I do not like the cold or dark. I wanted to make a piece that automatically warmed up the room the second it was placed in it. I think I accomplished that. It was also important to keep my painting contemporary and abstract. I like paintings that are "in trend". The white lines are there for contrast and one is ever so slightly askew (yes, that was on purpose). It forces people to take an extra look even if they do not particularly like the piece."

Watercolors and Pencil

"The two attachments are the first two pages from an illustrated children's book I wrote and painted for my ENG 300 last semester titled, "Tuila the Mutt". I used watercolors and pencils to create my piece. The inspiration was based off my own pet dog Shilo who is a Jack Russell Terrier/Beagle mix and my own experiences as a young child wanting to run away from home. I created this during the fall, which is why the whole story is all autumn themed. The whole story is seven pages long, all painted and written."

Cold Wax and Oil

"I have always had an interest in painting but did not pursue it until recently because I cannot draw, nor was I interested in learning drawing techniques. About 3 years ago, I took an oil painting class and later a cold wax workshop. After learning some basics in both classes, I have proceeded to'do my own thing.' Often I start with pictures for inspiration, but my end products are nothing like the pictures. I have found that if I try to paint specific objects, I become frustrated and unhappy with the results. For the most part, I just paint and have fun. The final paintings seem to evolve on their own."

"I spent four years in the marine corps learning about weapon systems and the intricacies of the parts and the machining. Now I'm here at western to get a degree in mechanical engineering because I have found a love for the design of the weapons. I sometimes sit and draw existing weapons because someday, once I graduate, I would like to get into the design field where I am responsible for the design of the weapons coming out on the market and in the military. The first one is a Glock, a very popular brand of handgun here in America, and the second one is the Israeli made Tavor. it is one of their service rifles issued to their military."
