Ripple 8

Ripple 8 by Nathaniel Kraft

18"x24"x1"
Acrylic on Canvas
Price: $250

"I started the Ripple series in 2015 with the intention to illicit emotional responses from the viewer through the use of color and texture interacting with each other. Colors have a significant meaning to people, which can stem from memories or symbolic belief. Each piece in the series has an emotion I bring into it from my past experiences, but it is designed to allow the audience to reflect or discuss what emotions it ignites in them. This idea came in part due to my brother, who has a green/orange and red/blue colorblindness. He responds to how he sees the same colors I do differently, since he sees vastly different shades. "Ripple 8" and "Ripple 10" come from living with anxieties and isolation that stem from mental illness and past traumas, some of which run throughout my family. However, I have received feedback from some viewers that they themselves feel different things like excitement, energy, and hopefulness from the pieces. "

Family Tree

Family Tree by Erika Powers

4X6 print
Photograph
Price: $25

"The Family Tree school project is a must for most children.  Like many, I completed one for school and at the time was very excited to talk to my parents and grandparents to learn about my family.  For me the family tree does not only represent an outline of family connection but has a deeper tie to who we are as a family and individuals in that family.  Each person on the tree started somewhere and their family shared their values and struggles, which developed and carved them.  As each one grew, they faced tangled and treacherous paths that may have uprooted them or blown them away shaping them separately from their families.  Each person like each branch is different because of how life has affected them but all connect to the same roots.  The same things my ancestors shared with their families may not exactly be the same that my parents and grandparents share with me but a little bit of their character, attitude, and values transcends the generations and continues to grow in us making us the family we are today. "

The colors of me

The colors of me by Chloe Gale

16x20”
Oil on Canvas

"This piece is a self portrait.  Each color is to represent a part of my family heritage.  This past year, with the passing of my grandfather, my family discovered more about the origins of our ancestors and I was inspired to create a piece dedicated to this discovery.  Each color depicted in this painting represents a part of my ancestry.  The distortion and blending of colors represents the loss of information throughout generations past.  While this journey of discovering who I am and where I come from is only beginning, I'm excited to see how my past determines my future.  "

A window to my past

A window to my past by Chloe Gale

20x24”
Oil on Canvas

"This piece is inspired by the phrase, "the eyes are the window to the soul".  I decided to paint a reflection of my eye as a window into my past, and the past of those who made me who I am.  My hope is that the viewer will be inspired to reflect upon those who made them who they  are today.    "

Saint Francis of Assisi

Saint Francis of Assisi by Jason Welvaert

5" x 14"
colored pencil, ink, marker on paper
$65

"The stories of and about the saints, along with the devotions and novenas given to them, has always intrigued me since a young age. Growing up in the Catholic faith has been an important part of my life. Catholicism is an essential component  in my ancestry and heritage. The stories and the narrations I was told as a child from my parents and grandparents about the lives of the Christian saints has enriched my understanding of the faith and the importance which it holds for my family. Through these stories the teachings of love, forgiveness, virtue, humility and wisdom shine forth for all of us to practice in our daily lives, whatever we believe. The saints are an example of what we as humans are all capable of: to become saints ourselves. The artistic iconography with which these holy figures are depicted has inspired me to keep my ancestral tradition alive by sharing the images through a brightly colored artistic lens and incorporating modern takes on ancient saintly beings. "In the spirit of my ancestors who survived the middle passage to settle in The Bahamian Archipelago, I give you the country of my birth.  My ancestors walked and enjoyed these islands, my mother, her mother and her mother's mother walked, played on, cried over and built these islands.  They gave birth in these islands and my children will enjoy these islands good and bad.  The most poignant of these pictures is that of the broken dock..  It was damaged by the last Category 5 hurricane to sweep through and devastate our islands.  Maria came through in 2017, that bridge connect my mother's hometown to the capital, it may be broken but we have survived and we will rebuild.  Despite it all....this is still God's country."
