WIU-QC Alumni Considered an Exemplary Teacher

Moline, IL - Western Illinois University –Quad Cities Alumnus Brittany Briggs graduated in May 2012 with a degree in elementary education. In 2013 Briggs began teaching fifth grade at Riverdale Elementary School and has already been commended for her exceptional interaction with her students. Earlier this year Briggs was the selected as the Teacher Feature for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, as three of her students placed in the Riverdale spelling bee and qualified, and competed, against almost three hundred older students in the regional level of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Ms. Briggs hard work is helping transform these students into socially responsible adolescents, while encouraging them to excel on a personal level. Ms. Briggs emphasizes team work and good sportsmanship to her students. The students who did not make it to regionals, were encouraged to help their competing classmates during free-study time, and when the competitors from Riverdale Elementary placed, it was a win for the whole class. Ms. Briggs is also dedicated to forming relationships with her students outside of the classroom, becoming a lasting mentor for many.
