"I graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in English and a business minor from Western Illinois University’s Quad Cities campus. Today, I work for Smartbrief as a writer and editor. My company publishes daily news briefs outlining the most important stories in various industries. My daily work includes tasks such as finding key stories, writing summaries using AP style, editing stories, and working with clients as well as other editors and writers. The most challenging thing has been learning to give up the Oxford comma, but I stubbornly cling to it in my personal writing."

"Dr. Hamner, Dr. Malachuk, and my other professors at WIU-QC were instrumental in providing me with the tools I needed to succeed in this and other pursuits I’ve taken on since graduation. It was great to be able to have access to such high-level instruction in the Quad Cities, and the education I received at WIU-QC has allowed me to work for a company that encourages telecommuting, which means I never miss my kids’ baseball or volleyball games!"
