About the Program

General: Participate in a semester-long exchange program in Southeastern Australia. Charles Sturt University is centrally located in New South Wales, which allows students access to major cities and national parks. Students at CSU have many opportunities to get involved with campus life, participate in outdoor recreation, and pursue other interests.

Housing and Meals: Housing is available on campus in residence halls with several different options. Students can purchase a meal plan or choose a self-catered housing option and prepare meals for themselves. To find out more about the housing and meal options, visit the CSU website

Entry Requirements: Students participating in a semester exchange will need to apply for an Australian student visa. You can start your application here.

Health Insurance: It is a university policy that all WIU students who study abroad are either covered under WIU student health insurance OR have purchased the Patriot Travel Medical Insurance plan through IMG.

Academics

Exchange students are eligible to take most courses offered at CSU. Courses are offered in a wide range of disciplines allowing students to take coursework towards major, minor, and general education requirements during the same semester.

Students can find courses available at CSU in the CSU Handbook. Please note that in Australia, courses are called “subjects” and majors are called “courses.” Please also note that session 1 is our spring semester and session 2 is our fall semester. An 8-credit course is equivalent to 3 semester hours at WIU.
