Nagasaki University

Nagasaki University

Nagasaki University sits in downtown Nagasaki, a very unique city in Japan which kept its doors open to the outside world while the rest of Japan was closed for more than 250 years during the Edo Period. As a result, the city is truly multi-ethnic and multi-religious, and has been home for many strangers, starting from Chinese merchants, the Portuguese, the Jesuits and the Jews. There is an old saying in Southern Japan, which goes: "Go to Nagasaki and you see and experience the whole world." Many famous people like Helen Keller, Rabindranath Tagore, and Pope John Paul II have visited the city.
