COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM SUBJECT EXAMINATIONS (CLEP)

At Western Illinois University (Macomb, Illinois): Subject Examinations are administered in Macomb at the WIU Counseling Center, Memorial Hall, Lower Level. You can call 309/298-2453 for an individual appointment. The code number for WIU is 1900. To receive credit, a minimum of 50th percentile must be earned.

Military Personnel: Military personnel on active duty who want to take CLEP tests should see their Education Services Officer (ESO). Military personnel are not required to use the CLEP Registration-Admission Form.

CLEP Registration

It is important that you complete a CLEP Registration-Admission Form and send it to the testing center where you desire the examination to be administered. Also, most testing centers require that your completed application be received at least one month prior to the date of the examination.

To receive credit for CLEP Examinations, request your scores be sent to Western Illinois University, Code Number 1900.

If college credit has been earned for a course that is equivalent to that of a particular examination, no credit will be awarded for that test. The following credit is awarded for CLEP Examinations within the BOT/BA degree program:

Proficiency Examinations At Western Illinois University

You may earn credit by proficiency examinations through various WIU academic departments. These examinations are administered on the Macomb campus. Quad Cities residents should talk to their advisor about possible exceptions.

Procedures

  1. During the first six weeks of the semester in which you plan to take the examination:
    1. You must obtain the proficiency application from the Registrar's office, Sherman Hall 110, or, in some cases, the departmental office.
    2. After obtaining the written approval of the department chairperson or the designated departmental representative, you must return the completed proficiency application to the Registrar's office.
  2. Results will be posted on your WARD Report.

Regulations

  1. Proficiency examinations are open to all enrolled BOT/BA degree students.
  2. Proficiency examinations may not be taken:
    1. If you have received course credit after completion of the course and/or
    2. At a level more elementary than completed course work.
  3. Hours earned by proficiency examination are to be applied toward your total graduation hours and may be applied toward the Social Science, Humanities and Natural Science/Mathematics requirement.
  4. Credit earned by proficiency examination does not apply toward the 30-hour BOT/BA enrollment requirement.
