All students enrolling in Independent Study (IS) courses pay in-state tuition rates. Students enrolling in IS courses will be billed for tuition at a later date. For information on tuition rates visit the Business Services site.
Students will be assessed a $30 per semester hour instructional enhancement charge for all courses designated Internet (I and IC), Correspondence (C), and Extension site (E). This distance learning instructional enhancement charge is applicable only to new students, students who re-enroll at the University under new Cost Guarantee programs (i.e. future new student cohorts and students who do not maintain continuous enrollment), and non-degree graduate students.
The additional dollars obtained through the charge will be used to enhance distance learning delivery services and instruction at Western, including required infrastructure, software platforms, and outsourced course development, and will directly benefit students taking Internet (designated I and IC), Correspondence (C), and Extension site (E) courses. The resources will also cover the necessary expenses in course guide production, mailing, and testing for students enrolled in correspondence courses; and will cover added expenses in offering courses at extension sites, including such costs as faculty travel, lodging, per diem costs, and room and audio visual equipment charges. Less than 100 of more than 3,000 Western courses will require the new charge.
This distance learning instructional enhancement charge will be applied only to new students, students who re-enroll at the University under new Cost Guarantee programs (i.e., future new student cohorts and students who do not maintain continuous enrollment), and non-degree graduate students. If a Western employee is entitled to a tuition waiver, he/she will be exempt from the mandatory distance learning instructional enhancement charge. The charge will be refundable during the 100 percent refund period each semester.
