Degrees at a Distance Program for Fire Fighters
Minor in Fire Service Administration
Students and firefighters enrolled in the WIU Board of Trustees Bachelor of Arts Degree Program may earn a minor in Fire Administration by completing four core courses, as well as two additional Degrees at a Distance Program (DDP) courses, for a total of 18 semester hours of credit.

Course Requirements
The specific course requirements to earn the minor in Fire Administration include four core courses and two courses within the course options.
Four core courses:
- LEJA 306: Organization and Administration in Criminal Justice
- LEJA 310: Fire Protection
- LEJA 483: Personnel Management for the Fire Service
- LEJA 486: Incendiary Fire Analysis and Investigation
Any two of the following course options:
- Engineering 443: Fire Protection Structures and Systems Design
- Engineering 444: Fire Dynamics
- Emergency Management 351: Emergency Medical Technician’s Training 1A
- Emergency Management 352: Emergency Medical Technician’s Training 1B
- LEJA 482: Analytic Approaches to Public Fire Protection
- LEJA 484: Fire Prevention Organization and Management
- LEJA 485: Political and Legal Foundations of Fire Protection
- Psychology 481: Fire-Related Human Behavior
- Emergency Management 477: Disaster and Fire Defense Planning
- Emergency Management 478: Managerial Issues in Hazardous Materials
- Sociology 487: Application of Fire Research
- Sociology 488: Community and the Fire Threat
Upon completion of the Board of Trustees Bachelor of Arts Degree Program and the course requirements for the minor in Fire Administration, recognition of the minor will be recorded on the student's official Western Illinois University transcripts.
