Description:Review the Illinois Early Learning Standards for ages 3-5; analyze and discuss purpose of assessment and current assessment practices in
early childhood education; determine effective observation tools and strategies for early childhood classrooms; learn techniques to develop portfolios to
provide documentation; examine various methods of documentation using WSS IL and the Illinois Early Learning Standards; discuss evaluation of
documentation and development of methods to report to parents and administration; and participate in work groups to identify, create, and share effective
and practical techniques for implementing WSS IL. This workshop is for those interested in beginning and implementing the Work Sampling System
Illinois assessment system. It is recommended that participants have completed and/or are strongly familiar with the use of the Illinois Early Learning
Standards and First Steps to Authentic Assessment prior to attending this workshop. Participants interested in attending the Illinois' Tool for Early
Childhood Excellence/Educators (I-TEACHe) workshop, may register after completing day two of Work Sampling System Illinois.
Presenter Bios:Sherial McKinney, M.S. Ed., is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist for STARNET Regions I and III. She has taught and worked in the
field of early childhood education for over 35 years. Sherial has taught Early Childhood Special Education in a self-contained setting and in a blended
program with students enrolled in the Pre-K at Risk program. She has also taught Kindergarten, Title I Reading and Math for grades K-8, and in a federally
funded child care program. Sherial has provided staff development and training opportunities for teachers, support staff, administrators and family members
at a variety of local, regional, and national conferences.
This training will provide 15 contact hours for the following:
- CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units) for teacher certification
- CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) #7
- CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals
- Gateways to Opportunity credit in area(s) C
Full attendance for the workshop portion AND full participation in the webinar is required to receive a certificate.
