Description: Participants will explore the components of the Early Learning Scale Preschool Assessment system; review the structure/components of the
ELS; discuss the domains and each of the items within the domains; understand the assessment cycle; and practice scoring. Workshop Note: Participants
must have already purchased, or will purchase their ELS instrument as this workshop is for those programs ready to begin implementation of the ELS.
Presenter Bios:Joan Leff, M.Ed., has been with Starnet Regions I /III for over 14 years. She is currently a part-time Early Childhood Resource Specialist
for Starnet Regions I & III and has over 30 years of experience in the field of early childhood education, both in the classroom and as a trainer/consultant.
Her past experiences have included working with early childhood professionals as well as young children and their families in the Early Intervention,
preschool, and primary grade settings. Joan has presented at numerous local, state, national, and international conferences over these many years. Over 60
workshop presentations have included topics such as child development, environments, observation, blending, play, curriculum, and assessment to name a
few. Joan has also been the Executive Producer and host of over 20 APPLES Video Magazine satellite/DVD programs.
Sherial McKinney, M.S. Ed., is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist for STARnet Regions I and III. She has taught and worked in the field of early
childhood education for over 35 years. Sherial has taught Early Childhood Special Education in a self-contained setting and in a blended program with
students enrolled in the Pre-K at Risk program. She has also taught Kindergarten, Title I Reading and Math for grades K-8, and in a federally funded child
care program. Sherial has provided staff development and training opportunities for teachers, support staff, administrators and family members at a variety
of local, regional, and national conferences.
This training will provide 10 contact hours for the following:
- CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units) for teacher certification
- CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) #7
- CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals
- Gateways to Opportunity credit in area(s) C
Full attendance is required to receive a certificate.
