Description/Bio: In this workshop, participants will discover how this approach can support positive relations among children; learn how to
provide a motivating environment by implementing project work; find out how project work reveals children's thinking and builds intellectual
ability; join other teachers who are working to implement this approach; and explore and discuss the relationships between project work,
authentic assessment, and the Illinois Early Learning Standards.
Lilian G. Katz, Ph.D, a 1968 graduate of Stanford University, is an international leader in early childhood education. She has taught at the
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for more than three decades, as well as directing the ERIC Clearinghouse. She has lectured in all 50 U.
S. states and in 43 countries. Dr. Katz has authored more than 150 publications, including articles, chapters, and books about early childhood
education, teacher education, child development, and parenting. Dr. Katz is currently Principal Investigator for the Illinois Early Learning Project
and lectures and consults around the world.
Sallee Beneke is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist with Starnet Regions I & III. She earned her M.S.Ed. in curriculum and instruction
from the University of Illinois and studied under Dr. Lilian Katz. She has been a master teacher, pre-k at-risk teacher, early childhood special
education teacher, and day care director. A frequent presenter at state and national conferences, Sallee has co-authored several books and
articles on the Project Approach and documentation of children's learning.
This training will provide 12.0 hours for the following:
- CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units) for teacher certification
- CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) #3
- CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals
Full attendance is required to receive a certificate of participation.
