Prerequisite(s) Required: Introduction and Implementation of the Creative Curriculum Preschool
Description: Join us as we explore the components of the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment system. We will look at the structure of Teaching
Strategies GOLD; identify the components; discuss the objectives for development and learning; explain the progression of development and learning;
interpret the color bands; explain the on-the-spot assessment tool and assessment opportunity cards; explain the assessment cycle; and practice scoring.
Prerequisite: Participants must have already attended "The Introduction and Implementation of the Creative Curriculum" workshop or another research
based, developmentally appropriate curriculum workshop. Participants should bring their Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment toolkit.
Presenter Bios: Connie Shugart, Project Coordinator for STARNET Regions I & III, has close to 30 years of experience working in the field of early
childhood education. Her experiences include teaching and/or training of early childhood and early intervention professionals and families. She has done
presentations at many regional, state and national conferences. A few of her topics include curriculum, assessment, standards, environments, child
development, and play. Connie is also one of the Executive Producers and hosts of Apples Magazine training videos. Her passions include educating
professionals and families on play and the impact that the early childhood environment has on teaching and learning.
Anna Owen is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist with STARNET Regions I & III. Anna has been involved in the field of early childhood since 2003.
She began her career as a Regional Training Coordinator for Child Care Resource and Referral. In that position, she coordinated and oversaw professional
development opportunities for child care providers within 24 counties. Anna has also worked as a Parent Educator, providing home visits to families with
children ages 0-5 years old, offering support and information about child development. In addition, she coordinated family education nights and parent/child
activities for six preschool classrooms while spending time in each classroom weekly. After participating in a Graduate program through Western Illinois
University, Anna received her Type 04 teaching certificate and began teaching for an Illinois state-funded preschool program in 2008. Anna has been with
STARNET Regions I and III since November 2009. In her role as an Early Childhood Resource Specialist, she provides technical assistance and training to
early childhood professionals and families. Throughout the years, she has served on several conference planning committees and has presented workshops
on topics such as: Math, Science, Literacy, Social/Emotional Development, Conflict Resolution, Praise vs. Encouragement, Healthy Habits for Preschoolers,
Transitioning Throughout the Day, Response to Intervention (RtI), Creative Curriculum and more.
This training will provide 12 contact hours for the following:
- CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units) for teacher certification
- CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) #7, #8
- CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals
- Gateways to Opportunity credit in area(s) A, C
Full attendance is required to receive a certificate.
