Description: How will the new standards affect me as an Early Childhood Professional? This workshop provides an introduction to the newly revised
Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards (3-5) and how they connect with the Common Core Standards in Kindergarten. There will be discussion about using these
new standards in lesson planning and other connections in early childhood programs. For this training the presenters ask that you please come with access to the Illinois Early
Learning and Development Standards either by printing it or saving it to an electronic device and bringing it with you. These documents will be used during the training. You

Presenter Bios: Sherial McKinney, M.S. Ed., is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist for STARnet Regions I and III. She has taught and worked in the
field of early childhood education for over 35 years. Sherial has taught Early Childhood Special Education in a self-contained setting and in a blended program with students
enrolled in the Pre-K at Risk program. She has also taught Kindergarten, Title I Reading and Math for grades K-8, and in a federally funded child care program. Sherial has
provided staff development and training opportunities for teachers, support staff, administrators and family members at a variety of local, regional, and national conferences.
Anna Owen, M.S. Ed., is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist with STARnet Regions I & III. Anna has been involved in the field of early childhood since
2003. Her previous jobs include regional training coordinator for Child Care Resource and Referral, as well as parent educator and preschool teacher for the Rock Island
Regional Office of Education. Anna has been with STARnet Regions I and III since November 2009. In her role as an Early Childhood Resource Specialist, she provides
technical assistance and training to early childhood professionals and families. Throughout the years, she has served on several conference planning committees and has
presented workshops on topics such as: Math, Science, Art, Literacy, Social/Emotional Development, Conflict Resolution, Praise vs. Encouragement, Transitioning
Throughout the Day, Teaching Strategies GOLD, Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards and more. When she is not working she enjoys photography and
spending time with her husband and two young children.
Continuing Education - This training will provide 6 contact hours for the following:
Full attendance is required to receive a certificate.
