Social Emotional Training Level II: Teaching Strategies

Prerequisite training(s): Social Emotional Training Level I: Promoting Children's Success

Description/Bio: Those who attended Social Emotional Level I will receive a registration form for this workshop. Based on the CSEFEL Module training, participants will be able to discuss why it is important to be more intentional about teaching social emotional skills; be able to identify strategies for supporting the development of friendship skills; be able to define emotional literacy and identify activities that build “feeling vocabularies;” understand the importance of providing opportunities for children to begin to understand their own, as well as others' emotions; understand why children need to learn to control anger and handle disappointment; be able to identify strategies to teach anger management skills; understand the importance of teaching problem solving; and be able to identify problem-solving steps.

Carol Weisheit has been an Early Childhood Resource Specialist with STARnet Regions I and III since 2002. She provides technical assistance and support to teachers of children birth to age eight, focusing primarily on children with special needs. She consults with agencies, schools, and programs on a variety of topics. Carol is adjunct faculty for Heartland Community College and is a certified High/Scope trainer. Carol holds a Bachelor's degree in Child Development and a Master's degree in Child and Family Studies. She is a former state director of Illinois CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), and consults with National CASA on a regular basis. Carol has directed child-care programs for low-income families, coordinated and taught in an at-risk pre-k program, and served as a parent educator providing home visits to families atrisk.

This training will provide 6.0 hours for the following:

  • CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units) for teacher certification
  • CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) #3
  • CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals

Full attendance is required to receive a certificate of participation.
