Description/Bio: This workshop will help participants identify the components of the High/Scope curriculum. The first day will focus on the
active learning approach, how children construct knowledge, and the learning environment. The second day will focus on the daily routine,
adult-child interaction, and assessment. This workshop is intended to be an introduction to the High/Scope approach and includes an overview
of all the components of the curriculum.
Carol Weisheit is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist with Illinois STARNET, a federal project funded through the Illinois State Board of
Education. As an Early Childhood Specialist, Carol provides technical assistance and support to teachers who work with children birth to age
eight, focusing primarily on children with special needs. Carol is a certified High/Scope teacher/trainer and teaches adjunct for Heartland
Community College. Formerly, Carol was state director of Illinois Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), served on the National CASA
Curriculum Advisory Committee, and trained for National CASA. Carol has directed child care programs for low-income families, coordinated
and taught in an at-risk pre-kindergarten program and served as a parent educator providing home visits to families at-risk. She has a
Bachelors degree in Child Development and a Masters degree in Child and Family Studies. In her spare time, Carol volunteers for the Make-
A-Wish Foundation, granting wishes to children with life threatening illnesses.
This training will provide 10.0 hours for the following:
- CPDUs (Continuing Professional Development Units) for teacher certification
- CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) #1, #3, #7, & #8
- CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals
Full attendance is required to receive a certificate of participation.
