Adventure Workshop Series (AWS) offered by Outdoor Pursuits

Outdoor Pursuits is Campus Recreation’s newest program area and will be hosting a weekly learning program called the Adventure Workshop Series (AWS) this fall. Programs will meet at the Spencer Student Recreation Center in the Keeney Room (East Entrance). Join us for outdoor skill development, survival knowledge and basic preparedness for any of our trips. No experience necessary, all are welcome!

September 7, @ 5:00pm - Orienteering (Free) - Learn the basics of a compass, map reading and navigation.

September 14, @ 5:00pm - Bike Maintenance (Tentatively Scheduled, Free) – Keep an eye on the website for updates!

September 21, @ 5:00pm - Camping Basics (Free) - Tent set-up, securing your camp, setting up an efficient campsite and much, much more!

September 28, @ 5:00pm - Knot Tying (Free) - Learn the ropes: Square, bowline, Trucker’s hitch, Clove hitch, Sheepshank, Sheet bend, Figure 8, and slipknots.

October 5, @ 5:00pm - Planning your own trip (Free) - Have the skills you need to camp and want to take some friends? We'll give you some hints on locations, tricks of the trade, and money savers!

October 12, @ 5:00pm - Camp Cuisine ($2 per person) - Is your version of camp food a Meal Read to Eat (MRE)? Open yourself up to a world of culinary possibilities in Camp Cuisine! Rescheduled to Wednesday, November 9th @ 5:00pm

October 19, @ 5:00pm - Camp Craft (Free) - Chairs, shelters, flatware and more!

October 26, @ 7:00pm - Star Hike (Free) - It's the new moon tonight and we'll hike off campus for an exciting look at the night sky (weather permitting).

November 9, @ 5:00pm - Camp Cuisine ($2 per person) - Is your version of camp food a Meal Ready to Eat (MRE)? Open yourself up to a world of culinary possibilities in Camp Cuisine.

November 16, @ 5:00pm - Cold Weather Camping (Free) - Get prepared for your winter adventure trips.

November 30, @ 5:00pm - Fall Trips/Upcoming Spring Showcase (Free) - Check out everything we did at our last workshop with photos of Shawnee National Forest, Mammoth Cave National Park, and Indiana Dunes. Chat with people who went on the trips and get a first look as we unveil the trips for Spring 2012!
