Shawnee National Forest

Outdoor Pursuits wants to involve you in a variety of experiences whether you are a novice or experienced outdoors person. Outdoor trips will include, but are not limited to camping, hiking/backpacking, caving, kayaking, educational tours, etc. No Experience is Necessary for Any of Our Trips! No refunds will be issued for Outdoor Pursuits events except in the case of cancellation by Campus Recreation.

Weekend Rentals for Basic Camping Gear
  • Friday Pickup and Monday Return
  • Tent  |  $7.00/weekend
  • Sleeping Bag  |  $5.00/weekend
  • Backpacks  |  $5.00/weekend
  • Sleeping Pads  |  $3.00/weekend
  • 6-gallon Water Jug  |  $3.00/weekend

Spring Lake Day Hike
Wednesday, April 9

Get off campus for another short hike! No experience or equipment required.

  • FREE!
  • Depart from Q-Lot, east of the Spencer Student Recreation Center at 3:30 PM, and return at approximately 6:00 PM.
  • Transportation provided by Outdoor Pursuits.
  • Participants should wear sturdy hiking boots/shoes.
  • Register by 4:30 PM, Tuesday, April 8, in the Campus Recreation Office.

Mammoth Cave Trip with University of Illinois Springfield (UIS)
Friday, April 11 - Sunday, April 13

We'll join forces with UIS to lead students to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.

  • Cost is $35/person, which covers equipment needs, food, and activity fees.
  • Transportation provided by Outdoor Pursuits.
  • Register by 4:30 PM, Wednesday, April 9, in the Campus Recreation Office.

Horn Field Campus Fun Day
Tuesday, April 15

Head out to Horn Field Campus for a day of climbing, learning, and high ropes course action!

  • FREE!
  • Transportation provided by Outdoor Pursuits.

Spunky Bottoms Canoe Trip at Spunky Bottoms Reservoir
Saturday, April 19

Come paddle at a little-known reservoir full of wildlife and "spunk"!

  • Cost is $20/person.
  • Covers equipment rental and food
  • Transportation provided by Outdoor Pursuits.
