Rules
Team
- Each team is allowed up to four players on its roster. Play will be 3-on-3 in the racquetball courts. At least two team members must be present at game time or the match will be forfeited.
- Substitution of players is only allowed between games or to replace an injured player.
Timing/Game Length
- The match will consist of a best of 5 games. The first team to win 3 games will be declared the winner.
- Games will play until all members of one team have been eliminated or until a 5 minute, running clock has expired. At the end of 5 minutes, the team with the most players left will be declared the winner. If both teams have the same number of players, the first team to eliminate an opponent will be declared the winner.
Equipment
- Six (6) balls will be used to start the game. They will be placed at the red line in the center of the court.
- All players must begin play with at least one hand touching the wall on their respective half. Play begins when the court monitor signals.
- After the signal, players may retrieve balls from the mid-court line. A ball is not live unit it is run back and touched against the back wall.
Rules Governing Play
- Players are knocked out when:
- He/she is hit by the ball below the neck by an opposing team member (not bounced off the wall or the floor). If a player ducks to avoid a ball and is hit above the neck, that player is still eliminated.
- The ball he/she threw is caught by an opposing player.
- When a ball falls out of a person's hand when using the ball to block.
- If they cross in any manner (step over, fall over, etc.) the attack line.
- If, when attempting to throw a ball, a player crosses the first red line nearest his/her side of the court.
- If a player catches a ball thrown by an opponent, one of his/her teammates knocked out of the game earlier may join play again.
- Any balls making contact with the floor or wall on a respective throw are considered dead and no eliminations are allowed by throwing or catching a ball of the wall.
- Players who are eliminated must stand against the back wall on their team's side of the court. They may try to kick or throw a ball to their teammates, but must keep one hand on the side of the will. If both hands leave the wall, another player is eliminated from the team. If only one player remains, the team loses the game.
- If a player has possession of a ball when knocked out, he/she may give it to a teammate.
Tournament & Brackets
- Play will begin Tuesday, March 6 at 6:00pm and continue until a winner is declared. Matches will be scheduled every fifteen minutes.
- The brackets for the tournament will be available in the Campus Recreation Office and emailed to the captain of each team.
