Attention Students And Alumni:
Paper Credential Files To Be Destroyed

Effective July 1, 2012 . The Western Illinois University Career Services Office will no longer mail or fax student/alumni credential files to potential employers. It is our intent to destroy all paper files.

We encourage all students/alumni to register with our online system, eRecruiting. This system is designed as a resume posting and job searching entity. The system is marketed to employers wishing to recruit students/alumni and is the system of choice in the Career Services profession.

In order for your documents to be viewed by employers you must register with eRecruiting. Once you have accessed the eRecruiting link, scroll down to the "Create an Account" link to begin the process. The Token Password is "Rocky". You must register "Yourself". If you are having difficulty registering, please contact the office at (309) 298-1838.

Once registered, you will be able to establish an electronic file that will take the place of the current paper file. You will also be able to view jobs that have been posted by employers and be able to conduct a targeted job search.

Your file will consist of a Student Profile (degree(s), major, career preferences, desired industry, desired job function, etc.), and your own personal resume (which you will upload into the system).

Once registered, you should periodically check the file to see who (employers) has viewed your file and when they viewed the file.

You will be able to initiate contact with the employers that have viewed your file.

Please Note The Following:

All Majors:

Your "transcript" (your official academic record) is not being destroyed; it is on file in the WIU Registrar's Office. (309-298-1891).

Confidential letters of reference cannot be scanned into the eRecruiting system.

If you are applying to graduate or professional schools, "student-self-managed" files is the method of choice for application.

Education Majors:

Your original "student teaching evaluations" are not being destroyed they are on file in the WIU Department of Education (309-298-1960 or 309-298-1961).

The change in this practice has been made to better reflect the philosophy of Career Services in supporting students in managing their own professional careers. In addition more and more employers wish to have the application process done electronically rather than in the traditional "snail-mail" method. As an office we have seen a substantial decline in requests for paper credential files to be sent. In the last 10 years, we have gone from sending over 2,100 files a year to just over 80 files being sent. By eliminating this process, we will also reduce student/alumni costs. This procedure has been approved by the appropriate university officials and departments.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
