Please review the Guidelines for Usage of Casa Latina Cultural Center.
The Casa Latina Cultural Center is located in the second floor of the Multicultural Center Suite 202. Casa Latina consists of a graduate assistants and student assistants area with cubicles for graduate assistants. Offices for the director, office manager and a conference room are also included in the suite.
The shared areas within the Multicultural Center are as follows:
Lounges: Casa Latina Cultural Center houses an International lounge and a Casa Latina lounge to provide an environment which celebrates the Latino and International cultures and provides a home away from home atmosphere for our students. Everyone is welcome to use the lounges for studying, watching television, or playing games.
Board Room: The Board Room is a large conference room that can seat up to 25 comfortably around the table. The room can be arranged to accommodate a wide variety of set-ups.
Computer Resource Room: The computer resource room is open to the public and has 9 computers, a printer, and scanner available for use.
Activity Room: The Activity Room is open to the public and can be used for various activities such as studying, eating lunch, and socializing with friends. The pool table is available for anyone to use and the pool equipment can be checked out with an ID at the main Reception Desk on the first floor.
Multipurpose Room: This area has bamboo flooring and is used for Tradicion Hispana Dance Troupe and Gwendolyn Brooks Dance Troupe rehearsals and for programming by the three Centers and other university departments.
Kitchen: The kitchen is on the first floor adjacent to the Activity Room. A refrigerator, microwave, and electric dishwasher are available for use. The kitchen should be fully set up hopefully this academic year. There is a vending machine area near the kitchen.
Resource Library/Study Rooms: The Resource Library features a quiet place to study or relax with a book or magazine. All books are housed within the atrium area, with the exception of reference books which are shelved in the Study Room. The Multicultural Center Resource Library books are cataloged through the University Libraries and can be checked out from our circulation desk in the Study Room. The Quiet Study Room, a room inside the Study Room, allows for a more private study area.
Lactation Room: In 2001, Illinois passed the Nursing Mothers in the Workplace Act which states that employers must provide space where an employee can express her milk in privacy. Our Lactation Room is available for WIU employees, students, and guests who are nursing mothers and need to breastfeed their infants or express their milk.
Outside Patio: An outside patio located west of the building is available for outdoor cook-outs or as an outside eating area.
