DRC Appointments

Welcome Appointments

Your welcome appointment is usually your first appointment with a DRC staff member. During this initial appointment, you will answer questions about the barriers you have experienced or anticipate experiencing at WIU, discuss modifications that may provide you with greater access, and learn about DRC procedures for arranging accommodations. If any additional disability documentation is needed, this will also be discussed during the welcome appointment. Students who do not live in the Macomb area can choose to have a phone appointment, rather than a face-to-face, if it is not convenient to travel to Macomb.

Accommodation Meetings

Each semester you will meet with a DRC staff member to pick up an accommodation letter to share with faculty members. Your accommodation letter lists the adjustments that will allow your equitable participation in the course, but does not provide specific information about your disability. This is a 15 to 30 minute appointment.

Test Scheduling Appointments

If your professor is planning to utilize the DRC Exam Service Center to accommodate your exams, you will meet with a DRC staff member to learn how to use the online exam scheduling program. It is important to bring your course syllabi with you to this appointment. Once trained on the online scheduling system, you will be able to schedule future exams independently at your convenience. After you’ve scheduled your exams, the DRC will work with your faculty to secure the exam, and you simply show up to take your exam at the DRC.

Text Conversion Appointments

If you are approved for an alternate format of print materials, you will be scheduled for a text conversion appointment. During this appointment, you will learn about the text formats that are offered, the process for requesting text conversion services and the different methods for accessing the text.

Other Appointments

You are encouraged to schedule appointments with DRC staff, as needed. Other reasons to schedule an appointment include, problems with accommodations, difficulties working with a professor, academic concerns, and requests for additional accommodations.
