Applying for Housing
As soon as you're admitted to Western, it is time to choose where you would like to live. You will make your housing selection by submitting a housing application. Room assignments are made based on the date that your housing application (Lifestyle Preference Form and processing fee) are received by our Assignments Office. We do guarantee housing; however, the earlier you apply the more likely your preferences will be matched.
Apply in 3 easy steps:
- Make sure you take your time to explore all your options. Explore the different residence halls, apartments**(if eligible), learning communities and/or amenities to become familiar with all we have to offer.
- Fill out the Housing Application, Lifestyle Preference Form and applicable fees (link located below).
- Wait for your Residence Hall assignment (usually announced in late-July). (Graduate and Family Housing offers on an independent and rolling time-line. Learn more...)
What you will need for your Housing Application:
- Your 9-digit WIU ID Number
- Your Community Preference: This is where you will indicate if you are interested in a learning community, interest community or specific building.
- Your Roommate Preference: If you know someone you would like to live with, you will need their name and 9-digit WIU ID Number. Otherwise, after you apply, you will have the option to go through our Roommate Matching program or be randomly assigned a roommate
- Housing Application Fee & Pre-payment:
Western Illinois University has established a prepayment requirement for all Fall semester incoming freshmen and transfer students. Students who have completed their housing contract by May 30 will be billed a $250 prepayment on June 1. This payment is due June 28. Students who have not applied for housing by May 30 must pay $300 ($50 processing fee and $250 prepayment) when submitting their housing application.
** Important Information about applying to Graduate & Family Housing/University Apartments: Because of limited occupancy, applying for Housing in GFH does not guarantee housing or apartment space. Following the guidelines and recommendations set forth in the UHDS Master Plan, Lamoine Village closed May 31, 2012. Availability for apartments in Graduate & Family Housing will be affected by this closure. Contact UHDS at 309-298-3331 for more information.
