Dads' Weekend Events

Find below a listing of the tentative events taking place during the 2012 Dads' Weekend. This listing will be updated regularly, so check back often! We try to make the information as accurate as possible.

  • In Like a Lion out with Appreciation: Macomb Lions Club
    Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm. Show your student or your "dad"  how much you miss and appreciate them by purchasing one dozen long stem roses.  This fundraiser supports the Macomb Lions Club.  All students living in the Residence Halls will have the roses delivered to their building.  All off campus students or guests will have their roses available to pick up at the registration table.
  • Dads' Weekend Check-In: University Union, First Floor
    Friday, noon - 6:00pm. Pick up registration information and wristband in the Student Assistance and Parent Service Center.
  • R & R Spa: 102 Northside Square, Downtown Square
    Friday, 8:30am - 7:00pm. It's Dads' Weekend, bring in your dad and each of you can enjoy a sports massage for 30 minutes. Advance appointment required by calling (309) 833-3401. R & R Spa Website
  • Ball Fore Family Fun Center: US 136 west of Macomb
    Friday, Noon-10:00pm.  Dads play miniature golf free with their WIU student.  Student must present their Western ID for the discount.
  • Dad and Me Massages: Spencer Student Recreation Center - Colgate Room
    Friday, 4:00-7:00 pm. Pre-arranged chair massage by certified therapist. $1.00 per minute. To make your reservation during the week from 8am till 4:30 pm, call 298-1228 ext. 221 or 222, after hours or on the weekend call 309-298-2797.
  • Billiards: University Union, Lower Basement
    Friday, 6:00 pm-midnight. Games are $1.00 per game.
  • Opening Dinner Reception Check In: University Union, Grand Ballroom Lobby
    Friday, 6:15-6:30pm.  Pick up registration information and wristband as well as check in for dinner.
  • Dads' Weekend Opening Reception and The Evasons: University Union, Grand Ballroom,  Prepaid Event
    Friday, 6:30 pm.  Join us for the Dads' Weekend Opening Reception and the mind-blowing feats of psychic magic and uncanny mind reading of The Evason's.  The dinner reception and show features a buffet style meal with cash bar, and live entertainment.  Dinner buffet includes: Roast beef, rosemary-orange pork loin, garlic mashed potatoes, three cheese pasta, green beans almandine, seasonal corn, dinner salad and roll.  Dessert will be hot apple or cherry cobbler with a scoop of ice cream.  After dinner you and your guest will enjoy our featured Psychics, The Evason's, Sponsored by University Union Board.
  • On the Open Road by Steve Tesich: Horrabin Theatre
    Friday, 7:30 pm.  Set in a landscape stripped bare by civil war, two independents forge an alliance of convenience in order to buy their way into the land of the free, the one safe haven in the land. Call the Hainline Box Office for details 309-298-2900  
  • The Evason's Show Only:  University Union, Grand Ballroom, Sponsored by the University Union Board.
    Friday, 8:00-9:00pm.  Come interact with Jeff and Tessa as they perform their mind-blowing feats of psychic magic and uncanny mind reading demonstration.  This show is not built on simple magic tricks.  This is one of the most incredible shows you will ever see! Limited seating is available on first come, first serve basis.  Free.
  • Rialto Theater Special: 1401 East Jackson Street
    Friday. All evening shows are $1 off for Dads presenting the Dad's Weekend wristband. For all shows and times please visit their website or call the Rialto at (309) 833-2626.
  • Volleyball Match: Western Hall
    Friday, 7:00 pm.  Come support our Womens volleyball team as they take on South Dakota State.  Free Admission
  • Haunted Heartland Walking Tour: Sullivan Taylor Coffee Shop, Southeast Corner Downtown Macomb 
    Friday, 9:00-10:15 pm  Tour check in starts at 9:00pm, tour will leave by 9:15. Are you interested in the paranormal activity?  Come get your socks scared right off of you on this evening journey through the local Haunts of Macomb. Your host and long time resident, ghost historian, Tim Weaver, will lead you on this walking tour and let's you discover the many ghosts that wonder the city. 
  • Rock and Bowl: Diggers College City Bowl
    Friday, 9:30 pm-11:30  Hey WIU students grab your Dad or other guests and join us for a night of Rock and Bowl. $7.00 per person, price includes unlimited bowling and shoes.

  • Dads' Weekend Check-In: University Union, Concourse, Ground Floor
    Saturday, 9:00am - 1:00 pm. Pick up registration information and wristband.

  • Open Bass Tournament: WIU Fishing Club
    Saturday, 8:00am - 2:00pm. It will be held at Spring Lake outside Macomb. There will be a $50 entry fee per team, 2 people per team. To register for this event email RL-Hunsicker@wiu.edu or fishing@wiu.edu 5 fish limit, greatest total weight at the end of tournament wins. There will be a pay back from the registration and trophy's awarded to the top 3 places. Come out and enjoy a good day on the lake and catch some fish! This lake is easily accessible with a trolling motor and allows any size outboard motor. Rain or Shine we will fish and have fun!
  • Cooking Breakfast with Dad: Knoblauch Hall, Room 230, Prepaid Event
    Saturday, 8:30 - 10:00am. This classroom experience will get fathers and students working in the kitchen to create simple and delicious breakfast meal.
  • Amateur Rocky's Two-Person Nine-Hole Golf Scramble: Harry Mussatto Golf Course. Prepaid Event
    Saturday, 8:00 am, shotgun start at 8:30am. $43.00 per team. Arrive at the course by 8:00am. to confirm your team. Event may be canceled due to weather conditions. On the day of the event, contact the Harry Mussatto Golf Course at 298-3676 if you need to determine tournament status. Prizes for 1st place, as well as, hole prizes.

  • Ball Fore Family Fun Center: US 136 West Macomb.
    Saturday, noon-11:00pm. Dads play miniature golf for free with their WIU student. Students must present Western ID Card for discount.
  • Marketing Club Bags Tournament: Parking Lot by the Southside of the Football Field and Union (The Pit)
    Saturday, noon. Come help support the WIU Marketing Club at this Bean Bag Toss Tournament. Registration is $10.00 per team (2 members per team). Register by emailing XP-Sims@wiu.edu or DM-Malley@wiu.edu with your name, email, and phone number. You can also register the day of the event. Winner gets $100 prize, second receives $50. This will be a fun time for all!
  • Beerfest:  The Forum, 201 S. Lafayette, Macomb Downtown Square
    Saturday, Noon - 6:00pm. All participants must be 21 years and above to be admitted.  Admission is $5.00 for WIU student, $10.00 General Public, and $5.00 for Dads' Weekend participants who purchase their tickets on the dads weekend registration page (WIU student must be present with student ID to pick up admission tickets to this event).  Sampling tickets will be sold at the event for $.75 for each ticket or a book of 8 tickets for $5.00. Click here for additional information
  • Snack Attack: Knoblauch Hall, Room 230, Prepaid Event
    Saturday, 12:30 - 2:00pm. This classroom experience will get fathers and students working in the kitchen to create great snacks to take along with them to the evening WIU football game.
  • Open Bowling: Diggers College City Bowl
    Saturday, 1:00pm-Midnight. Students bring your Dad by Diggers for a little fun at the bowling alley. WIU dads with a dads' weekend wristband will receive free shoe rental with the purchase of one or more games.
  • Competitive Advanced Rocky's Two-Person 18 Hole Golf Scramble: Harry Mussatto Golf Course, Prepaid Event.
    Saturday, Noon, shotgun start at 12:30pm. $56 per team. Arrive at the course by 12:00pm. This is event is for advanced golfers only. Event may be canceled due to weather conditions. On the day of the event, contact the Harry Mussatto Golf Course at 298-3676 if you need to determine tournament status.  Prizes for 1st place as well as hole prizes. 
  • High Ropes Course Experience: Horn Field Campus, 985 China Road, Macomb
    Saturday, 1:00-4:00pm. $10 per person. Payment is collected on-site on a first-come, first-served basis. All equipment and training is provided. You must be 18 years or accompanied by an adult. Sponsored by RPTA and Horn Field Campus.Call (309) 833-5798 with questions.
  • Corn Maze: Horn Field Campus, 985 China Road, Macomb
    Saturday, 1:00-4:00pm. RPTA invites you to help us celebrate "cornfusion" in our one of a kind corn maze.  The Macomb corn maze is located at the WIU's Horn Field campus, on the southside of Macomb. Each year there is a newly designed maze. Come check it out, we will have you grinning from "ear to ear"!  Cost is $5.00 collected on site.
  • BBQ Sauce Contest: Knoblauch Hall, Room 230, prepaid but will allow 2 walk-on's
    Saturday, 2:00-4:00pm. Dads and students roll up your sleeves, get down and cook your best barbeque sauce. Come watch this engaging activity as dads versus dads in a down and dirty cook off. Each team will make 2 Cups of sauce. Food sampling and judging will occur.
  • Veterans Club Baggo Tournament: Campus Recreation, OutdoorVenue
    Saturday, 2:00pm till tournament is complete. Help the WIU Veterans Club support a regional organization or group by participating in the Veterans Club Bags tournament. It's $10 per person. Your $10 will go to help create rehabilitation programs for wounded veterans. Each participant will receive a green WIU Veterans/support our troops t-shirt, snacks and beverages, as well as, prizes for 1-4th place. (rain location Student Recreation Center)
  • Basketball Skills Challenge:  Mac Gym, Spencer Student Recreation Center
    Saturday, 2:00pm.  Got game?...Prove it!  This challenge includes a free throw contest, three point contest, and hot shot challenge.  Father/Son or Daughter will be partners in all events and prizes will be awarded.  $10.00 per team. Register through Dads' Weekend Reservation. Sponsored by Campus Recreation.
  • WIU Women's Soccer: Vince Grady Field
    Saturday, 3:00 pm. Come watch our Leathernecks as they dominate over UMKC.  Free admission.
  • WIU Tailgate Opens:  Q Lot near Campus Recreation
    Saturday, 3:00pm till kick off.  Show your Leatherneck pride and join other families as they experience a collegiate football pre-game experience.
  • Saturday Night Leatherneck Football Game: Hansen Field
    Saturday Kick off at 6:00pm.  Watch the Leathernecks defeat the Indiana State. Ticket purchases are available online for just the football game. If you are registering for dads weekend activities and also want to purchase game day tickets, they are available on the Dads' Weekend registration page. WIU students are admitted free (general admission) to all home games with their WIU ID card.
  • Rialto Theater: 1401 East Jackson Street

    Saturday, 7:00 pm.  Come out and support our WIU Volleyball team as they take on North Dakota State.  Free Admission.
  • Flashlight Night at the Corn Maze:  Horn Field Campus, 985 China Road
    Saturday, 8:00-10:00pm.  RPTA invites you to enjoy some cornfusion at dusk.  Flashlight night in the corn maze, bring your flashlight and be prepared to be lost! $5.00 per person, payable on site.

  • 18-Holes of Golf: WIU Harry Mussatto Golf Course
    Sunday, 8:00am - dusk. Dad and student can play 18 holes of golf for $25.00 per person with coupon. Cost includes cart rental. Visit their website to print off coupon and book a tee-time online, or schedule a tee time.
  • Dads' Farewell Breakfast: University Union, Grand Ballroom. Prepaid Event
    Sunday, 9:00-11:00am. Buffet-style dining; omelets to order, pancakes, sausage links, grilled potatoes, fruit, donuts, orange juice, and coffee
  • Racquetball: Spencer Student Recreation Center
    Sunday, Noon - 11:00pm Call 309-298-2797 to reserve your court. Racquets and a racquetball will be provided

    Sunday, 1:00 - 7:00pm. Swim laps, relax on an inner tube, enjoy the whirlpool, or try the sauna. Aquatic equipment available.

  • Student Recreation Center:
    Saturday 8:00 AM-9:00 PM; Sunday 12:00-11:00 PM.
  • Argyle State Park: 6 miles West of Macomb, Rt. 136
    Fish, picnic, camp, and enjoy the wilderness.
  • Spring Lake: North of Macomb, off Rt. 67
    Hike, fish, picnic, camp, or rent a rowboat or canoe.
  • Everly Park: Randolph Street, Macomb
    Beautiful park with picnic areas.
