Western Commitment Scholarships
Western Commitment Scholarships are automatically awarded to incoming freshmen with a 3.3 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale). Fall 2021 freshman students who are admitted to WIU with a 3.0 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and students who are eligible for the Western Commitment Scholarship can petition for a higher award.
What are the requirements?
- Incoming freshman
- Meet high school GPA requirements
- Enroll full-time in WIU undergraduate courses
Is this scholarship renewable?
- Yes, for an additional three years (six semesters) of continuous full-time undergraduate study
- You must also meet federal satisfactory academic progress requirements
Renewal criteria for students entering WIU in Spring 2020 and prior can be found online here.
What else do I need to know?
- Scholarships will be disbursed in equal amounts between the fall and spring semesters
- Total financial aid and scholarships cannot exceed the total cost of attendance for Western Illinois University
- Scholarships are subject to the availability of funds
How to Apply
- Apply for and be admitted to WIU
- Calculate your eligibility online here if you have already taken the SAT or ACT and want to submit your scores
- Complete the online petition
- 3.0+ GPA - petition to receive the scholarship
- 3.3+ GPA - petition to receive a higher award amount
- SAT or ACT scores are not required or considered
