Intercollegiate Athletics

Student-athletes at Western Illinois University continually raise the bar–in the classroom, in the community and on the field of competition. Academically, 56 percent of all student-athletes earned a GPA of at least 3.0 during the 2009-10 academic year, including 80 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Socially, student-athletes served more than 2,000 hours of community service and raised over $15,000 for local, regional, and national charities. The Fighting Leathernecks are competitive on the playing field as well, winning 26 conference championships, with 9 NCAA post-season tournament appearances, 23 Coach of the Year honorees, and 562 All-Conference honorees since 2002.

A charter member of both the Missouri Valley Football Conference and the Summit League, Western Illinois University sponsors a broad-based 20-sport intercollegiate varsity athletics program serving more than 500 student-athletes. Ten men's sports and 10 women's sports are offered including football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, soccer, swimming and diving, track and field, golf, softball, cross country and tennis. Competing at the NCAA Division I level, the most elite collegiate level, Western Illinois University strives to graduate student-athletes, win conference championships and advance to NCAA postseason tournaments.
