Academics, Affordability, and Student Body
Western Illinois University offers top-notch academic programs to more than 12,500 students. Ninety-three percent of all courses are taught by highly-trained faculty, not graduate students. At 16:1, our student-to-faculty ratio ensures our students’ personal attention. Western Illinois University students come from 92 Illinois counties, 38 states, and 65 nations. More than 20 percent are minority students. Committed to empowering students through the opportunity to earn a high quality education that is also affordable, Western’s GradTrac and Cost Guarantee programs ensure that students can achieve their degrees within four years while paying a fixed rate for tuition, fees, and room and board. WIU remains the only university in Illinois to guarantee the cost for tuition plus fees and room and board for students over a four-year period at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Western’s Cost Guarantee program is the model for the state’s “truth-in-tuition program” that helps students control cost. WIU’s community of professionals is dedicated to preparing students to be productive citizens, diverse thinkers, and engaged community members through excellence in teaching and learning. Residents of Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin and Indiana receive Illinois in-state rates.
