The Presidents' Statement on Diversity

As I serve the final months as 10th president of Western Illinois University, I want to continue to emphasize to our new students that diversity is an integral part of our institution’s strategic plan: Higher Values in Higher Education. We believe that, in order to demonstrate and support our core values of academic excellence, educational opportunity, personal growth, and social responsibility, we must celebrate the richness of our diverse community and provide an environment that is inclusive and welcoming to all.

As the 11th president of Western Illinois University, I want to further enhance and support a climate of community, understanding, mutual respect, and appreciation for multicultural issues. As a campus community, we are proud to provide academic and extracurricular opportunities that support a culture of inclusion of all individuals. The University fosters an environment where students are encouraged to participate in academic coursework, cultural activities, organizations, and social events, where they can learn to appreciate and enhance the diversity of our WIU community.
