Western Commitment Scholarship Renewal - Prior to Summer 2019

Western Illinois University awards automatic scholarships to eligible incoming freshmen with excellent academic ability and achievement in high school. Western Commitment and Centennial Honors Commitment scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters (four years) of full-time undergraduate attendance in fall/spring terms. Renewal criteria must be met for students to maintain scholarship funding; however, a one-semester grace period will be allowed if students fall below the applicable cumulative GPA requirement before scholarship funding is forfeited.

Western Commitment Scholarship renewal criteria:

  • Maintain a cumulative WIU GPA of a 3.0 or higher
  • Maintain continuous full-time enrollment (12 hours or more) each fall/spring semester at WIU as an undergraduate student
  • Live in University Housing for the first 3 years of enrollment (exceptions are granted for credited internships, study abroad and Quad Cities campus enrollment)
  • Apply for financial aid at WIU by completing the FAFSA each year, which is available beginning October 1
  • Comply with the WIU Code of Student Conduct

Centennial Honors Commitment Scholarship renewal criteria:

  • Maintain a cumulative WIU GPA of a 3.4 or higher
  • Maintain enrollment in the Centennial Honors College
  • Maintain continuous full-time enrollment (12 hours or more) each fall/spring semester at WIU as an undergraduate student
  • Live in University Housing for the first 3 years of enrollment (exceptions are granted for credited internships, study abroad and Quad Cities campus enrollment)

Centennial Honors Commitment scholarship award recipients who do not meet or who do not wish to meet the renewal requirements for the $10,000 annual award can opt to instead receive the next highest Western Commitment scholarship award if they meet the stated renewal criteria.

Additional Renewal Information

Violations of the Code of Student Conduct will be reported to the Coordinator of the scholarship program. Students who are placed on Disciplinary Probation or a more severe sanction will face rescission of their Western Commitment or Centennial Honors Commitment scholarship.

Students not meeting assigned criteria will not be required to reimburse any previously awarded Western Commitment or Centennial Honors Commitment scholarship funding but will not receive future funding. If a student chooses to attend another college or university, the scholarship is forfeited; once forfeited, the scholarship cannot be reclaimed. Scholarships are contingent upon continued funding availability.
