Family Day 2013 Schedule of Events

Saturday, September 28

  • Family Day Check-In
    University Union, First Floor
    8AM - 10AM
    Pick up registration materials, get your t-shirts and have questions answered at the tables outside the Office of Student Activities .
  • Spencer Student Recreation Center Open Hours
    8:00AM - 9:00PM
    Recreation center offers workout equipment and recreation for older family members, ages 16 & up. Ages 16-17 must have a Parent-signed waiver required. Visitors must be accompanied by a registered WIU student. ID's required. $5.00 per person at the door. Visit the Memberships Page for waiver and more information.
  • Rocky 5K Run/Walk Check In
    Spencer Student Recreation Center (SRC)
    8:00AM - 8:45AM
    Maps available in the (SRC) Campus Recreation office Monday-Friday or on the Family Day website Info Listing.
  • Rocky 5K Run/Walk
    East entrance, Campus Recreation (SRC)
    Start time, promptly at 9:00AM.
    $5 per person; $10 per person after September 25. Register online through Family Day registration or in the Campus Recreation Office Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm. Open to the public.   • Soothing Chair Massages
    Spencer Student Recreation Center
    10:00PM - 8:00PM
    Massages provided by certified massage therapist Tammy Jo Miller. Please call (309) 298-1228 to schedule your appointment today. Massages cost only $1.00/minute. Pay by cash or check at time of appointment. Spencer SRC membership is not required
  • Family Day Golf Outing
    Harry Mussato Golf Course, 1215 Tower Road.
    Check-In 8:30 AM; Start time, promptly, at 9:00AM
    $18/person for this two-person, nine-hole golf scramble. Golf cart included. Pre-registration required.
  • Leatherneck Game Day Tailgating
    Southwest corner of Q Lot
    10:00AM - 4:00PM.
    Enjoy socializing with student groups, administration and others. Spots are first-come, first-served. No glass containers. Clean up is required.
  • Family Day Info Table
    Hanson Field grounds, near the tall flags
    11AM - 4:00PM.
    Pick up registration tickets; get your t-shirts!; check in for picnic tent
  • Family Day Carnival
    Green space west side of Hanson Field and Campus Rec *Cancelled*
    11:00AM - 3:00PM
    Participate in free fun with the University Union Board, coordinators of Family Day. Enjoy inflatables on the green space. Don’t forget your free take away items and get your caricature drawn by one of three artists! Look for the small tents!
  • Student Assistance and Parent Service Center (SAPSC) Stop by the SAPSC table for free popcorn and information on how to join the parent association.
  • Family Day Picnic
    Under the big tent and grills north of Hanson Field
    12:00PM - 3:00PM
    Enjoy standard picnic fare with your choice of hot dogs or hamburgers with chips, cookie and canned sodas. Free meals for incoming Freshmen families with student I.D. and invitation card. Walk ups and extra meals $6 per hot dog meal and $7 per hamburger meal in a picnic box.
  • Tailgating Main Stage Concert: .38 Special
    East QLot Festival Stage
    1:15PM - 2:30PM,Free Admission
    The University Union Board is proud to present a free concert featuring legendary rock band, .38 Special! After three decades, these rockers continue to bring their signature blast of southern rock to over 100 cities a year where thousands of audience members are still amazed by the explosive power of the band's performance. Enjoy such hits as. "Hold On Loosely", "Rockin' Into The Night", "Caught Up In You", and more.
  • Horn Field Campus Outdoor Fun
    Located off Johnson Street, one mile south of Macomb, China Road

    Open Climbing Tower
    1:00PM - 4:00PM $5 per person. Those 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Corn Maze
    1:00PM - 4:00PM & 8:00PM - 10:00PM $5 per person
  • Leatherneck Football: Leathernecks vs.South Dakota State
    Hanson Field
    3:00PM Family Day General Admission tickets for the student section priced at $10.00. Students admitted free with I.D. Family Day pre-registered tickets are a 33% savings over gate pricing. Order through the registration page only if you are participating in other Family Day events.     Sodexo Campus Services provides an a la carte Sunday brunch with something for everyone. Cash, check and student cards accepted. Family Day menu

    Macomb Family Diner, West Jackson Street, serving from 7AM-3PM
    The Red Ox, 1302 West Jackson Street, serving from 11AM-2PM
    Rocky's, 1402 West Jackson Street, serving from 7AM-2PM
    Sunrise Family Restaurant, 307 East University Drive, serving breakfast from 6AM-11PM
  • Ball Fore Family Fun US HWY 136, west of Macomb. Call 309-836-9741 for hours. Offering mini-golf at $5 per person; batting cages at $1 per token for 12 pitches; golf driving range at $5 per bucket of balls; free sand volleyball and basketball court. All equipment available.

  • Spring Lake Park On Your Own Activities
    Located 2 miles North of Macomb & Western Illinois University on Route 67, West 1.8 miles on Spring Lake Road. Entrance is on the right.
    5:30AM – 10:00PM
    Enjoy the quaint setting by a 230 acre lake stocked with numerous fish and where you don't need a reservation to camp. Amenities include, two boat launches, bait, ice, firewood, canoe, jon boat & paddle boat rentals, horseshoe pit, hiking/biking trails, and playground.
