  • Family Weekend Check-In
    University Union, First Floor
    4 p.m.-9 p.m. Pick up registration materials and have questions answered at the tables outside of the Office of Student Activities
  • Children's Book Sale
    Murray Street Café
    12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Usborne Books & More offers adults and children the very best in non-fiction and fiction children's books. Usborne books range from preschool through high school with some books of interest to adults. Prices begin at $4.99. Usborne Books have received numerous awards, are internationally acclaimed, boast more than 1,500+ fiction AND non-fiction titles, stimulate thinking and make learning fun, and provide internet links & references with most titles. Usborne Books are a great choice for every member of the family!
    This fundraiser is sponsored by the WIU Department of Education's Council for Exceptional Children and Usborne Books. Profits from the book sale will be used for service activities involving children with special needs and for professional development opportunities for WIU student members.

    5p.m.-8:30 p.m. Massages by certified massage therapist Tammy Jo Miller. Please call (309) 298-1228 to schedule your appointment. Massages cost only $1.00/minute. Services payable by cash or check at time of appointment. Spencer SRC membership is not required.
  • Spencer Student Recreation Center
    5:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Recreation center offers workout equipment and recreation for older family members, ages 16 & up. Ages 16-18 must have a Parent-signed waiver found on the website listed below. Friday pool hours are from 6:00-7:00 a.m., 11:00-1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.-8 p.m. Visitors must be accompanied by a registered WIU student. ID's required. $5.00 per person at the door.   • A Midwest Haunting: Paranormal Investigation Tours
    7p.m. Sullivan Taylor Coffeehouse, Macomb Square, Downtown
    It's another season of ghost hunting!! Meet at Sullivan Taylor coffee house to share in the rich history and investigate the dark side of downtown Macomb. After a brief description of past tour activity plus a review of how to use investigative tools, you become the ghost hunters! This will be a guided tour through pitch black buildings so please bring flashlights and camera's. Tour lasts approximately 2 hours. $13 per person, groups of 25 or more $10 per person and $1 off for WIU students and families (show student ID).     Synopsis: It's Christmas Eve and Sharky has returned to Dublin to look after his irascible, aging brother Richard, who's recently gone blind. Old drinking buddies Ivan and Nicky are holed up at the house too, hoping to play some cards. But with the arrival of a stranger from the distant past, the stakes are raised ever higher. In fact, Sharky may be playing for his very soul. If you like theatre that makes you think and if you like snarky humor from overseas, The Seafarer is right up your alley.     11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Stop by the print sale of student works from the department of art on the concourse all afternoon. All original, creative, handmade one of a kind designs. T-shirts, baby onesies, cards, tote bags and fine art prints at great prices!
  • WIU Parent and Family Association Open Meeting
    University Union, Capitol Rooms.
    1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. The Parent and Family Association (PFA) Advisory Board will hold their annual open meeting. PFA will discuss membership accomplishments and fund-raising initiatives, as well as future goals. Drinks will be provided.
  • Historic Courthouse Square Walking Tour and Museum Exhibit
    Western Illinois Museum
    Lafayette Street, downtown
    1:00 p.m. Free admission, donations appreciated. Take a one hour guided tour that features intriguing stories of early settlers who built the square, details about the architecture of Macomb's unique buildings as well as significant events that took place in the Macomb community. Yes, Lincoln did sleep here! After the tour, stop in to view the current exhibit highlighting the role photography plays in recording our personal and collective history. Open from 10:00- 4:00 p.m. Free admission. Donations appreciated.
  • UHDS Open Houses
    Lincoln/Washington/Grote, or Bayliss/Henninger Halls
    1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Before the game, visit with UHDS in the upper-division residence halls. This is a great opportunity to see where your Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student will live next year! Dessert-style snacks will be available.

  • Family Portraits with Kari Busard Photography
    Various campus locations. Rainsite: Prairie Lounge 12:00-7:00 p.m. It's difficult to gather the family together for pictures, especially after students move away to college, so let Kari Busard Photography capture your family outdoors on the beautiful Western campus.     Climbing Tower: 1-4 p.m. The open climbing tower experience includes all equipment and instruction on the 40 ft. wooden climbing structure. $5 per climber. All ages welcome. Those 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

    3:30-6:30 p.m. Join us for a picnic with President Jack Thomas. Enjoy build-your-own BBQ rib or grilled chicken breast sandwiches, potato salad, salsa and chips, cupcakes and assorted beverages. $14.50 for adults, $5.50 for children. Registration is strongly encouraged. Limited cash-only walk up access. Sponsored by the University Union Board with the Parent and Family Association.
  • Family Weekend Carnival
    Mall outside Hanson Field
    3:30- 6:30 p.m. While you are enjoying the picnic with President Jack Thomas, take advantage of inflatables, caricatures and other activities! The carnival is a free event. Sponsored by the University Union Board.
  • Bag Toss Tournament
    3:30 p.m. Mall area outside Hanson Field
    The WIU Veterans Club hosts a Bag Toss Tournament! Entry fee is $15.00 per person and includes a "Why Be Greek When You Can Be An American" T-shirt. Please indicate size t-shirt when registering with the contact person listed here. Adult sizes SM-2XL. Walk-ups will be accepted until 3:45 p.m. for $5.00 per person with no t-shirt. Each team will consist of two players in this single elimination tournament. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners. Proceeds go to the Quincy Honor Flight.   • Spring Lake Park On Your Own Activities
    5:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Located 2 miles North of Macomb & Western Illinois University on Route 67, West 1.8 miles on Spring Lake Road. Entrance is on the right. Enjoy the quaint setting by a 230 acre lake stocked with numerous fish and where you don't need a reservation to camp. Two boat launches, bait, ice, firewood, canoe, jon boat & paddle boat rentals, horseshoe pit, hiking/biking trails, and playground.
