Monday – Thursday, November 5 - 8, 2012

8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. - The Women's Center will have a Salute to Women in the Military display in the Multicultural Center, first floor lobby.

Monday – Friday, November 5 - 9, 2012

8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. -The Veterans Resource Center is accepting applications for SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society. For eligibility guidelines or to apply, visit wiu.edu/veterans. The deadline to submit application materials is Friday, November 16, 2012.

8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. - The Veterans Resource Center is requesting 4x6 or 6x4 photos of students, staff, and faculty who are veterans or service members for a permanent photo display. Mail or drop off photos at the Veterans Resource Center, 333 Ward Street, Macomb, IL  61455.

8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. - ROTC Cadets will retire worn flags dropped off at the Veterans Resource Center.

3:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. - Career Services will be hosting “Skype and Phone Interviews” in Memorial Hall room 124. The workshop will teach students how to present themselves professionally through electronic interviews.

3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. - "Tensions in the Classroom: Clashing Ideas/Clashing Values", part of the Difficult Conversation series, will be held in the Lamoine Room in the University Union. This informal discussion will offer the campus community an opportunity to talk about issues that arise when people unfamiliar with others' backgrounds, values, or experiences are asked to work and live side by side.

6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. - Students TALK presents "Sleep Wellness" at the Student Organization Center in the University Union basement. This interactive presentation provides students with knowledge on healthy sleep habits and strategies.

8:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. - UUB Bingo at the Murray Street Café. Patriotic music will be played before and after the event and select rounds will be played in a V-shape in honor of our veterans and service members. The grand prize is a Wii game system.

Friday, November 9, 2012

8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. - The Women's Center will have a Salute to Women in the Military display in the Multicultural Center, first floor lobby.

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. - Present your military ID at the University Union Bookstore to receive a 20% discount on gift or apparel items.

11:00 a.m. - Veterans and Service Members Tribute will be conducted at the Sherman Hall flagpole.Join the ROTC Cadets, Veterans Club President Carlos Ortiz, SGA Senator Michael Quigley, Soloist Andrea Dunn, President Jack Thomas, Vice President of Student Services Gary Biller, and Dr. Bruce Briney as we honor our veterans and service members. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Sherman Hall Auditorium, third floor.

12:00 p.m. - The Sherman Hall Bell Tower will play a medley of anthems as a tribute to each of our military service branches.

9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. - Rocky-N-Roller Skate at the Spencer Student Recreation Center. Wear your best (and worst) rock music attire. Prize awarded for best dressed. There is no cost for admission and skates are provided.

Fallen Soldiers 5k Run/Walk
6:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. - Registration for the WIU Fallen Soldiers 5k Run/Walk. Run or walk in support of the WIU Fallen Soldiers Scholarship, established to honor the ultimate sacrifices of two alums, Lt. Col. Robert E. Baldwin and Capt. Derek A. Dobogai. Registration will take place on the East Terrace of the Spencer Recreation Center until the start of the race. Visit race/walk details and online registration form or make a donation.

7:30 a.m. - Join us for the Fallen Soldiers Tribute in honor of Lt. Col. Robert E. Baldwin (1993 graduate) and     Capt. Derek A. Dobogai (2003 graduate) as we remember the sacrifices of our fallen soldiers. The ceremony will take place in the Spencer Campus Center Recreation Gym.

8:00 a.m. - Fallen Soldiers 5k Run/Walk begins. Review the race route. At the conclusion of the race, food and beverages will available for run/walk participants on the East Terrace of the SpencerRecreationCenter.

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. - Present your military ID at the University Union Bookstore to receive a 20% discount on gift or apparel items.

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Enjoy a morning of free, family-friendly skating at the Spencer Student Recreation Center.

1:00 p.m. - Cheer on theWIU Leathernecksduring the Veterans Appreciation Game against YoungstownState. There will be festivities throughout the game to honor our service men and women.

3:00 p.m. – A Flag Burning Ceremony will take place at the Vermont, IL Ball Park. This event is sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 101 and the American Legion.

4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. - Macomb Elks Lodge #1009, located at 401 Deer Road, will host an Appreciation Social for all WIU veterans and service members. A shuttle bus service (parking lot south of the Malpass Library), food, beverages, and live DJ will be available at no charge.

5:00 p.m. - Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity will present their Fall Recital in the Recital Hall. Select patriotic songs will be performed.

7:30 p.m. - University Theatre presents Smokey Joe’s Café at the Hainline Theatre. Free admission for student veterans and service members. One guest per student veteran will also be admitted at no charge.

8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. - Present your military ID at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course and receive a 25% discount on merchandise or free green fees with the rental of a golf cart.

10:30 a.m. - The Macomb VFW will be conducting a Veterans Day Ceremony at 1200 E. Jefferson Street. Soup and sandwiches will be available after the ceremony. This event is open to the public.

1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. – Veterans, service members and their family members are invited to Horn Field Campus for the climbing tower and hot dog roast. Free for WIU student veterans, service members, and their family members. Please make your reservations with the Veterans Resource Center by calling 309-298-3505 by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012.
