Jake Mitchell

Jake Mitchell holds an MA in Human Developing Counseling with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Illinois Springfield. He also holds a BS in Social Science Education from Southern Illinois University. Prior to coming to WIU, Jake worked with adults, children, and families in a community counseling program in Springfield. He has also worked with at-risk youth in an alternative education setting.

Jake uses an integrative style of counseling that is heavily influenced by humanistic and existential counseling approaches. Jake enjoys working with all types of clients. His areas of special interest include depression, anxiety, identity development, phase of life issues, life transition issues, LGBTQIA+ issues, and other issues related to diversity and difference.

In his spare time, Jake enjoys reading, traveling, camping, and hiking. Jake is grateful for his family and friends.
