The TAG program offers the opportunity for students who are transferring from an accredited institution guaranteed admission to Western Illinois University to complete their bachelor's degree. Students must meet the TAG requirements to be eligible for the program and also sign a participation agreement.

Why be a part of TAG?

  • This program allows transfer students to stay on top of their transfer experience from the very beginning.
  • Students who sign up to be a part of TAG will receive course credit evaluations and a WIU degree audit of their courses every semester.
  • Admissions counselors work closely with TAG students to help with the full transfer experience.
  • This program is ideal for community college transfer students who are looking to attend WIU. We will also work with students who are transferring from any institution.
  • $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP given to TAG students who enroll at least part time (6 credit hours or more) at WIU immediately after their community college experience and meet the 2.0 GPA (with 24 earned credit hours) listed in the program requirements. 

Program Requirements:

Western Illinois University agrees to admit qualified transfer students.

Eligibility & program requirements:
  • Current transfer students who have 30 credit hours or less from an accredited institution may participate
    • If you have more than 30 credits as a college student please apply through regular transfer admissions
  • Current High School Students who plan to transfer to WIU after attending a community college
  • Achieve a 2.0 cumulative GPA and  24 earned credit hours from all institutions attended and be in good academic standing from the last school attended
  • Complete the TAG participation agreement form below and  an application for admission at wiu.edu/apply (if you have a current application on file you do not need to complete an additional application)

Important Details:

  • Students in the TAG program, or seeking regular admission, must meet all current admissions requirements, policies, and procedures of WIU at the time of admission.
  • This agreement does not guarantee admission for students seeking readmission through our University registrar's office
  • Admission to WIU specific degree programs, schools, or academic colleges is not guaranteed through the TAG program. There may be additional admission requirements to enroll in and complete certain WIU bachelor’s degree programs. Admission to a specific major is not guaranteed due to space, or specified requirements/competitiveness of some programs. Students may be admitted to the University as an undeclared student, or with a pre designation, if program requirements are missing or a program is filled.
  • International students will have their English proficiency requirement satisfied for admission so long as they complete their Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree at an Illinois community college.
  • Western Illinois University agrees to accept all course credit with an IAI distinction or that have been completed at Illinois Community Colleges or Iowa Community Colleges which are in accordance with the current transfer and articulation policies and processes.
  • Credits coming from out of state institutions that do not have current articulation agreements in place will be reviewed on a course by course basis and additional information may be required.
