The primary purpose of the Summer Music Camps at Western Illinois University is to provide the best possible educational opportunity to young people for individual development in the knowledge, practice, and appreciation of the fine art of music in a nurturing musical environment. Any returning camper receives a reduced camp fee!

JUNIOR-SENIOR HIGH JAZZ CAMP

Sunday, June 27 - Friday, July 2
Cost - $485

Camp Director is Dr. John Cooper, Director of Jazz Studies, Western Illinois University. Past staff has included Mark Roller, John Mose, David Hoffman, John Vana, Kevin Nichols, and Michael Stryker. Students will be placed into combos based on their audition and instrumentation. All students will get ensemble experience, jazz history, and improvisation classes with highly specialized jazz faculty including the WIU Jazz Faculty. Combo participants will study performance techniques related to small group jazz performance including standard repertoire, improvisation, interpretation and style, the roles of the combo instruments, jazz forms and harmonic practices, and listening.

SENIOR HIGH DRUM MAJOR CAMP
Drum Camps

Sunday, June 27 - Friday, July 2
Cost - $465

Camp Director is Dr. Mike Fansler, Director of Bands, Western Illinois University. Emphasis of this camp will be on marching fundamentals, block band drill exhibitions, conducting styles, innovation in salutes, leadership and motivation, aiding the band director, squad competitions and evaluations, multiple drum majors, parade and field commands, and special drill routine exhibitions.

There will be no auditions for the Drum Major Camp.
