Fall 2007 FYE Survey Results

Fall 2007 represents the beginning of Western's 3rd year with the FYE program. This provides a the ability to show trends which have been demonstrated from Fall 2005 to Fall 2006 and to Fall 2007.

Western remains a top choice in where WIU freshmen wanted to attend college. In addition, WIU freshmen continue to be committed to graduating from college.

Western's FYE courses provide freshmen with a small class size that encourages discussion, participation, and getting to know their instructor. In fact, the these positive attributes have increased during the 3-year period, with Fall 2007 freshmen reporting even smaller classes, more discussion, and greater interaction with their instructors.

Incorporating the use of the common reading, Fast Food Nation in Fa2005, Class Matters in Fall 2006, and Last Child in the Woods in Fall 2007 continues to be a challenge for the FYE program.

With more than 95% of new freshmen living in the residence halls, this presents a valuable opportunity to help students were they live. Residence hall staff have been making a concerted effort to increase the impact of residence hall program and more fully integrate it into the FYE program.

Residence hall FYE seminars/activities covering study skills, transition to college, dealing with roommates, etc., have been of value to me.	4.21	3.80	3.13

Given that new freshmen indicate that their floor RAs have a great impact on their adjustment to college life, it is important that the FYE program continue to work at integrating the residence halls into the entire program effort.
