BA Theatre, Acting
Chelsey Childress

What have been your most favorite classes and your least favorite classes?
As far as Theatre classes go, I would have to say one of my favorite classes was Play Analysis with Jay Conner. It was a fun and enjoyable class plus I was able to read and learn and analyze a wide variety of plays and literature. I found out what I would like to act in, what my comfort zone was, and what plays I felt I didn’t have a knack for.
Are the students all from Chicago in theatre and dance?
Haha…well, being from a small town it kind of seems that way. But no. Not all of them. I know some people who are from just as small of a town, if not smaller, than mine and they are amazing. There are people from northern Illinois, southern Illinois, Missouri and those few and far between from Wisconsin.
Why did you choose to go to Western for college?
One of the main selling points for me and my family was the price. WIU has and will give me a great education for a fantastic price. I also came because they would allow me to pursue both Theatre and Broadcasting. I’m able to work with both departments and get things done through them. Also, the minute I started talking to people here, they were friendly, helpful, and knew what they were talking about. When we got in the car to drive home after visiting the campus I just kind of knew that this college was the one for me.
What's it like living in Macomb?
Macomb is a small community. It is a lot like home so I try to visit other towns as much as possible. There is always something going on in the Theatre realm so there’s not usually a boring moment. But in town there are cute shops, places to eat, and of course Lake Argyle which is just a couple minutes down the road. I’m not going to lie to you, it’s not the most exciting town and it’s definitely no Chicago, but as long as you look and you know where to look there is always something to do.
