Family Involvement

This section is devoted to providing ways for families to be actively involved in their child's learning. Parents and families are the child's first teachers and know their child better than anyone else. We will have different activities to do will your child posted here, along with links to other interesting sites. If you have ideas you'd like to share with us, please do so.

Math, science, and social studies skills are so important to us throughout our lives. Think of how often numbers show up in your daily life--when shopping, traveling, finding the right channel on TV. Number recognition is just one of skills children need. Being able to look and to listen to discover patterns and notice how things are the same or different are important in math, science, as well as social studies. If you have a photo album of grandparents or even great-grandparents, encourage your child to notice things that are the same or different. Are some photographs in black and white? Was it because color film had not yet been invented? Some families may have tint types, too. How is the clothing different? What about hair styles? Can you think of other things that may be the same or different?

The outdoors provide many things to observe. As the season change, point out to your child some of the changes taking place. Are buds forming on trees? Are leaves changing colors? Does the temperature feel warmer or colder? What type of birds can you see?
